it bothers me a lot when i have an unfinished project sitting on the shelf for too long. sadly, more often then not, i find myself picking it up again only to decide that i don't want to finish it... it's especially sad, when i happen to notice errors in the knitting... alas, that was the case with my 3 year old work-in-progress, Teva Durham's lace leaf pullover.
i thought i would just fix the grafting and attach the sleeves. but, when i looked at my handiwork, i noticed that i knit the sleeve caps very differently... that is, with one, i followed the k1fb increases instructed in the pattern. the other, i knitted m1L and m1R increases, placed 1 stitch in from the edges. urgh... i was already annoyed with the fact that one sleeve was much more loosely knit then the other... so this was the final straw.
so, i quickly began the process of unraveling the pieces of the sweater. first, the sleeves. then the body. not long after noon, i had this stack of newly recycled yarn:
of course, after i unraveled it, i started thinking of things to knit right away... and caston for a project right away. only to stop after a good swatch of knitting and decide that the yarn really needed a soak to get the kinks out. (i mean, it HAS been at least a year since i last picked it up...)
yup. this meant i needed to unwind all my newly wound balls of yarn--so that i could tie them up into kinky hanks (see picture above). next came a hot soak with some wool wash love and makeshift hanging to dry:
i fleetingly courted the idea of dying the yarn with some black cherry kool-aid, but gave up that romance after the hassle of soaking the yarn in a bucket in the shower then separating the individual hanks to hang dry... for those of you who have been in my bathroom, yes, it was every bit as uncomfortable as it sounds.
so that was my Sunday... a somewhat fun day.

I'm sad for the lace leaf pullover -- it was so pretty! What did you cast on for with the frogged yarn, pre-washing? And has the sheep smell left yet??
