the dangers of travel knitting

i started this shawl almost immediately after i pinned the tweedy baby vest onto the blocking board. seriously, even though it was rather late on a Sunday night, i couldn't just sit still and relax; i needed to begin a new project right away. before long, i had a mini triangular swatch of a shawl:

swallowtail shawl, start
eek. adam wants to know why i keep knitting granny shawls.

of course, once the weekend ended, this delicate lace project moved into my handbag and traveled with me on my commutes to and from work. i was very concerned that the yarn would catch and break on an inner zipper or something while in my handbag; luckily, that didn't happen. instead, i was very shocked when, after preparing to knit the stitches on one needle, i picked up the other side of needle to do just that, and found:

eek
oh! when did that happen?

my night was almost ruined. but, i paused harold and kumar (the second movie) to dig through my collection of knitting needles... and found that i did have another (longer) pair of US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needles. thank goodness.

That is going to be beautiful! What a bummer about your needles. At least you had another set!

ACK! Sophy, that's awful!
